"Inability to break the circle"
Igor Stravinsky, Frederic Chopin
"Vaslav Nijinsky (1889-1950) still casts a spell long after his death. The undisputed star of Diaghilev’s Les Ballets Russes from 1909 to 1913 his legendary performances in Petrushka, Le Spectre de la Rose and L’Après midi d’un faune still appear beguiling, through the medium of the few photographs that survive a century after his glory days."
Yuka Oishi created Paradox and Sacré as two separate pieces inspired by Nijinsky, but they are usually played together to illustrate different aspects of the man and the dancer. Paradox is based on Nijinsky’s Diary, written when he was suffering from mental illness and which is notoriously contradictory and generally lacks lucidity.
